- The Client:
A government department client is looking for a Senior Developer to join them on a 6 month contract. This position will be based UK wide/ Hybrid.
Job Summary:
Electronic Monitoring Acquisitive Crime (EMAC) is a team dedicated to replacing the existing Airbus Acquisitive Crime portal. The service supports Police Forces, Probation Officers, and the Acquisitive Crime Hub team in reducing neighbourhood crime, preventing re-offending, and improving the effectiveness of electronic monitoring. The current phase of development is focused on building the backend infrastructure to process crime data CSV files received from the police. This system will enable the automated triggering of algorithms designed to identify and match relevant crime data efficiently.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in backend development, ideally within a microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with modern Java or Kotlin for backend development.
- Ability to design and implement APIs for secure data exchange between systems.
- Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including deployment, hosting, and service management.
- Skilled in building and deploying microservices for data ingestion and processing workflows.
- Experience hosting and executing algorithms or data science models within backend services.
- Understanding of secure data handling and compliance requirements, especially for sensitive or justice-related data.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment in AWS environments.
- Knowledge of cloud-based monitoring, logging, and scaling tools (e.g. CloudWatch, ECS, Lambda).
- Comfortable working in environments with cross-team dependencies and evolving requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to reliability and performance.
- Able to work independently to meet delivery timelines and project milestones.
- Collaborative and communicative approach, able to work effectively with data scientists, analysts, and operational teams.
- Commitment to creating a reusable, scalable solution that can serve as a blueprint for future projects across Probation.
- Familiarity with data science or machine learning integration in production systems (desirable).
An active SC clearance is required for this role. At a minimum, candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo security clearance. Due to the short-term nature of the contract and the urgency of the requirement, the client may prioritise applicants who already hold active SC learance and meet all essential criteria.
