POST DETAILS
Job Title: Technical Developer
Grade: £30,153 - £33,437
Location of Work: Warrington Town Centre
Directly Responsible To: Lead Developer
Directly Responsible For: Potentially 2 or 3 junior / trainee developers in the longer-term
Hours of Duty: 37 hours per week to be worked flexibly in accordance with service need.
Primary Purpose and Scope of the Job:
The role is to design, build, test and support technology solutions using a range of products and tools. They will work in a multi-disciplined team of system engineers, architects, analysts and operational users.
At any one time they will focus on the development and support of one of more systems, typically those being overhauled as part of WBC’s transformation programme.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
1. An active member of the ICT system development community and also the transformation programme team.
2. Stakeholders within the wider council, such as Operational Service Managers.
3. Operational users of the systems.
4. Third-party suppliers of ICT goods and services.
5. Technical Authorities of other local Councils, Partners, Agencies and Third Parties.
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Deliver quality software that is easy to maintain and clean to operate.
2. Manage successful outcomes across all stages of the development lifecycle of the project, making sure that products at all stages are fit for purpose, appropriately tested and meet agreed performance levels.
3. Take accountability for delivery of their system releases into the Production / Live estate whilst maintaining a stable live service.
4. Ability to find and use the appropriate tool or technology for the given task, and know when to ask for help.
5. Support more junior members of the team in developing their technical proficiency.
6. Have a passion for technology and continually improve their knowledge and skills of Software Engineering skills and practices.
7. Be able to contribute to uplift of the overall development team capability.
8. Communicate effectively with wide range of stakeholders including developers, architects and business owners, to achieve a shared delivery plan.
9. Support business analysts and the wider programme team by innovating around business objectives to help shape the business solutions and identify different ways in which requirements could be met.
10. Keep abreast of changes in the technology market to understand the opportunities with and risks from emerging ICT changes.
