• Candidates should have a good breadth of IT knowledge gained from experience in significant roles, with depth in infrastructure architecture as well as at least one of the other key architecture domains. ITIL qualified, TOGAF.
• An ability to advise and interact with all levels of client management and staff, including CIOs, CTOs and Programme Managers
• Full UK driving licence

• Demonstrate the experience of managing a benefits case model in choosing a new Datacentre or Datacentre provider.
• Architecture Design and technical implementation skills in System Migrations, Datacentre consolidation and virtualisation, Telephony, Networks, Firewalls, Storage.
• High level understanding of data centre environmental facilities including power distribution, uninterruptible power switching systems, generators, air handling equipment, cabling and cable management systems, fire suppression, and security.
• Demonstrate experience of leading the datacentre migration projects as the technical lead.
• Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering service migration solutions on time and on budget.
• Able to lead design and customer focused workshops, showing agility and a capability to be creative.
• Experience of designing & implementing multi-vendor, multi-layered solutions for mid to large enterprises spanning multiple datacentres.
• An ability to document solution components in a timely manner while ensuring acceptable level of detail, data integrity, and accountability
• In depth Knowledge and hands-on experience of migration methods for BT, NICE and Avaya solutions and consolidation and Capacity planning.
• Must have knowledge and experience of Datacentre and service migration project life cycle and methodologies as well as the tools used for migrations.
• Must demonstrate the ability to choose the right tools for data migration techniques.
• Must have an ability to produce and present high quality presentations to diverse audiences, e.g. customer meetings and workshops
• The ability to Identify and quantifying technical risk and advice on strategies to mitigate them.
• Must have an understanding of technical infrastructure problems, challenges and complexities that exist within each stream or area of a programme and be able to manage the stream leads to arrive at an integrated technical solution that meets the Customer’s business requirements.
• Good understanding/experience of multi-tiered application architectures.
• Good understanding of commercial elements of solutions and ability to present this and potential return on investment models to customers.
• Good understanding of licensing models, licence footprints, license harvesting and re-use.
• Good understanding of Cloud methodologies for future hosting and/or managed service transitions.
• Demonstrable technical consulting experience in the IT industry, preferably a CAT 1 responder.
• The ability to deliver without a pre-defined customer agenda Leading technical teams, either through chain of command or influence
• Flexibility around working locations (Manchester area), working hours and weekend commitments.
Key tasks and deliverables
The Technical Project Manager will be accountable for successfully identifying and delivering a new datacentre location to replace the existing primary datacentre. The envisaged solution will be a Managed Service and the Technical Project Manager will be responsible for the activities related to exiting and migrating to the new location including the migration of the virtualised and consolidated services within the datacentre; physical hardware (lift & shift); the Operational Communications Branch (OCB) server infrastructure, network, telecoms and telephony; firewalls and perimeter security.
The candidate will also be responsible for migrating all consolidated legacy services to a new home.
The candidate will have responsibility to provide these services for complex business solutions based on best practises and architectural principles.
The Operational Communications Branch (OCB) provides a critical service to GMP and the people of Greater Manchester's communities. Based at three sites across the Force our staff receive around 2.5 million emergency and non-emergency calls every year, dealing with a diversity of individual and community needs through the specialist staff in Call Handling and Command & Control business areas. The OCB also provides GMP with a centralised crime recording unit and is involved in the planning and delivery of every policing operation that takes place across the force area, providing 24/7 support directly to GMP's operational staff.
OCB staff provide an effective and resilient service, demonstrating professionalism and compassion whilst managing a wide range of incidents and events - often making decisions quickly that are life critical about how we respond to calls for Police Service.
• Assess the viability and deliver the business case for external datacentre options.
• Work within the Datacentre Programme to ensure all technical aspects of customer's requirements are considered and delivered in a timely and coherent manner.
• Working in the datacentre migration project to lead and undertake the delivery of a coherent designed, planned and costed migration/transition activities to enable the successful migration of the systems and associated infrastructure and services.
• Work with Datacentre Programme and 3rd parties to estimate effectively and plan end to end migration/transition activities using industry standard transformation methodologies and supporting products.
• Create comprehensive documentation around migration/transition designs and project delivery and contribute to the development of a centre of excellence in this specialist area.
• Design and develop phased migration approach working with the Change and Estates Branches (GMP) and Service stakeholders
• Develop and manage internal relationships, earning the respect of colleagues at all levels across the business ensuring a cohesive internal focus towards solution design
• Perform costed migration architecture assessments, planning and implementation services as part of the project through to the closure and sign-off with the Customer and managed service providers.
• Demonstrate technical and advisory leadership for the customers and 3rd parties working in conjunction to deliver Datacentre Projects and workstreams.
• Assist in the migration tasks coordinating with the internal teams, technical resources and managed service providers
• Create detailed technical migration related implementation tasks, service activation, integration activities, by working closely with all technical departments.
