- Job Title: Database Administrator
· Client – Sovereign Housing
· Day rate circa £400 Ltd, Outside IR35
· Contract length – 3 months
· Start date week commencing 16th September 2019.
· Primary location for this role will be – Newbury.
Sovereign require a Database Administrator to provide backfill resourcing within the Database Administration team to allow existing DBA resources to support on-going project work
Education, Vocational Training & Qualifications
· Educated to degree level or equivalent through relevant work experience
· Driving License
Experience
· Experience of the Microsoft environment (.Net development within Visual Studio, Windows server, Citrix, Exchange)
· Experience of managing and maintaining an operational and developmental database estate
· Experience of development methods for example AGILE
· Experience of SQL HA/DR technologies (in particular -SQL FCI; AlwaysOn Availability Groups; Log Shipping)
· Experience of SQL Server performance tuning/tracing/events etc
· Knowledge of scripting with T-SQL
· Some experience of Microsoft ecosystems (LogicApps, Azure, Microsoft Cloud database tech)
· Web technology: awareness of data integration techniques regarding websites and Business 2 Business data transfer
Desirable
· Experience in managing Azure SQL database environment. DBAAS, IAAS, SQLMI
· Experience of ETL tools ( SQL Integration Services)
· Experience of SQL Server Reporting Services
· Familiarity with other DBMSs (in particular - Oracle)
· Experience in Database Design
· Experience in Microsoft base Data Warehouse technologies.
· Evidence of giving strategic commitment to Microsoft database technology
Job Purpose
· As a database administrator ensure the highest levels of customer focus, collaborative working and service excellence in the management, design, installation, monitoring, maintenance and performance tuning of production and test databases.
· Delivering the highest levels of data availability and system stability in line with Sovereign’s BCP and recovery objectives This includes responsibility for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
· Taking full end to end ownership for incidents and problems, communicating effectively with all stakeholders and ensuring a timely resolution.
Key Deliverables
· Accountable for ensuring that data from unrated sources is integrated effectively and supports the business objectives and growth plans.
· Accountable for the support, maintenance, issue investigation and resolution as well as documentation of all the databases, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
· Responsible for establishing the needs of users and monitoring of access and security. As well as managing the set parameters to provide fast query response for front end users.
· Accountable for ensuring that all backup and recovery processes are validated, understood, documented and tested regularly whilst maintaining all data retention and archiving processes. To include: development, management and thorough testing of all backup and recovery plans. All data should be retrievable in an emergency.
· Accountable for performing routine database maintenance tasks. As follows: Available space checks, inspection of invalid objects and all alerts, checking of consistency, contention and performance issues and validating routine exports of data.
· Accountable for maintaining all databases to correct versions and apply appropriate patches and upgrades in line with the IT departments change policy, as well as the release of code into UAT and then into the live environment.
