Experience Required
We are seeking a communication professional who:
• can evidence a good track record of delivering strategic communications planning and media management for a major organisation
• has strong experience of dealing with contentious or sensitive reputational issues
• can manage internal and external customers confidently and professionally
• has a strong understanding of public sector organisations and has experience of dealing with sensitive political issues • is a good team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• can evidence excellent written and verbal skills.
Key tasks and deliverables
Our Yorkshire local communications team is looking for an all-round communications specialist to support its capacity to deliver and lead excellent communications in the area. The role is wide and varied, including media relations, digital communications, internal communications and communications planning and evaluation.
Responsibilities:
• support the communications team to provide effective all round communications support to the local Area teams
• work with the local area teams to source information and identify the right opportunities to achieve positive media coverage for our local work, including through digital channels
• monitor and evaluate media, social media and other communications activity
• draft and produce internal and external communications material (such as a Weekly Buzz, Cascade or blogs)
• work with Environment Agency national News desk and other communications colleagues to produce press releases and media handling plans
• lead on creation of any national-once content to support messages providing advice on brand as necessary
• support the Senior Communications Team Leader and other members of the team on forward planning and reporting of events and activities
• develop and maintain briefing material to support engagement with partners and communities
• provide communications support on specific local and national projects. This role will be required to work as a duty communications officer as part of a rota and in an incident role as required. Some travel may be involved, when necessary.
