Description
The Client:

A government department client is looking for a Head of Pay and Reward to join them on a 3 month contract. This position will be in UK Wide/hybrid.

Job Summary:

The client is responsible for delivering the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme, which will provide financial compensation to victims of the infected blood scandal on a UK-wide basis.

The Programme Delivery Team is responsible for delivering on workstreams which will enable the client to function as an employer independently from a government body. The Pay, Reward and Benefits Lead is a key role and you will contribute to its success by ensuring that the pay and reward strategies and policies are in place to enable the client to attract, motivate, develop and retain the talent it needs to deliver for the victims of the infected blood.

Working in the programme delivery team as the subject matter expert on pay, reward and benefits, you will lead the implementation approved pay arrangements, play a key role in the implementation of payroll provision, and deliver pay-related policies and processes by 1 October with support from policy colleagues.

You will also support a staff transfer of circa 1000 employees to support delivery of job evaluation solutions, rewards and recognition offerings.

Given the nature of this role, you will have high levels of autonomy to lead your own work and have opportunities to engage closely with the Board, Executive Committee, Remuneration Committee and other senior stakeholders.

There will be an opportunity in the immediate term to help establish a permanent pay, reward and benefits team with the necessary capabilities to independently deliver cyclical and ad hoc activity, and to ensure the client remains compliant with HR policies, relevant legislation and government policy.

This is a dynamic and fast-paced role which involves managing multiple priorities and frequently changing requirements, so you will need to be comfortable working with ambiguity and uncertainty.

The current post holder will be leaving 31 August so there will be a short handover period to enable the new post holder to get up to speed.

Essential skills/experience:

  • Experience of managing pay, reward and benefits in a large or complex organisation.

  • Able to build and maintain strong and inclusive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and communicate, influence and negotiate to effect change, including in senior level meetings.

  • Experience of working with the Trade Union(s) to deliver positive outcomes, preferably in a pay and reward context.

  • Experience of developing written communications such as policies, presentations and briefings.

  • Confident using data and insights from a variety of sources to help guide and direct decision making.

  • Experience of managing and supporting multiple projects or initiatives concurrently, with an understanding of basic project management principles - with a well organised, proactive and enthusiastic approach.

  • Be adaptable, flexible and able to work at pace - meeting regularly changing priorities and contributing to a wide variety of high-profile projects, briefings and commissions as required.

  • Have good planning and organisational skills with attention to detail.

  • Chartered/fully qualified (level 7) member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) or equivalent professional qualification or HR knowledge/experience.
