SERVICE REQUIREMENT
You will lead the Digital Publishing strategy, including the following aspects:
Publishing insight
With nearly 700 statistical releases in 2018/19, regularly leading national debate and media, you will be responsible for ensuring the the client continues to publish our releases in a timely and coherent fashion. Ensuring the planning and scheduling of products aligns closely with strategic planning functions , to coordinate messages and activity, while maintaining quality and capacity within publishing.
Strategic change
To continue to develop the web platform and associated products to enable us to move away from legacy parts of the web estate. Develop and implement associated means of representing and presenting the office’s outputs and information in a way that makes best use of the web as a medium. This will include, but is not limited to, evolving the web platform to adapt to how audiences access data and providing the best environment to publish the 2021 census outputs.
Build new capability
To build skills across the company–bringing together statistical, dissemination, visualisation, information, design and web authoring skills, to work in a collaborative way and to ensure that these skills are increasingly common and in use across the office.
Develop new content/products
Create new and engaging content that draws on the information assets held in ONS, taking a commissioning role to ensure resource is used strategically across the content portfolio on the right projects. Oversee a continuous programme of improvements to the website and other online channels, including exploitation of social media channels, to build and engage audiences and disseminate products.
Partnership development
To build the right partnership models and build good networks to promote/champion the wider use of statistics. Working with the Director of Policy, Communications and Digital Publishing to build and maintain a positive and influential relationship with the Executive Team and support delivery across ONS.
User research and performance analysis
To ensure decisions about product and platform design are driven by user research and data on usage and trends in digital content consumption. Taking the lead on monitoring divisional performance against specific business plan commitments and taking action as appropriate.
Managing resources
Managing budgets with agreed financial and delegated authority ensuring effective prioritisation, working collaboratively to ensure value for money across the office.
Digital vision
Responsible for the technical excellence and the continued improvement of the website. Ensuring that the data published by the client is helpful for all users and integrates with the wider web.
