- The Client:
A government department client is looking for a Financial Accountant to join them on a 6 month contract. This position will be based in Aberdeen/ Hybrid.
Job Summary:
Key responsibilities:
- Lead production of client's Annual Report and Accounts and act the main point of contact for our external auditors.
- Develop client’s Cash Management policy and manage the client bank account, ensuring that cash payments and receipts are accurately recorded in the financial ledger, and that appropriate cash sums are made available to the company each month.
- Develop client’s tax policies to ensure appropriate VAT and corporation tax returns are made.
- Set accounting policies for the company, and work with our Sponsor Department and HM Treasury to ensure financial transactions and investments are appropriately recorded.
- Be responsible for the accuracy of the client’s Statement of Financial Position (SoFP / Balance Sheet) through in-depth knowledge of its assets and liabilities, ensuring robust processes are in place to provide assurance to the Accounting Office.
- Development of counter-fraud strategies and supporting action plans.
- Develop/enhance financial policies, procedures and guidance for use across the company.
- Contribute to the provision of finance advice and guidance across the company (e.g. in relation to non-current assets, travel and expenses, VAT or government finance policies).
- Month-end processes including review of journals and oversight of balance sheet account reconciliations.
- This is a new role in a new organisation, and as such the key responsibilities shown here are subject to change. A key requirement of the role is to work with the Director of Finance to further refine and develop this Job Description, along with the JDs of the other team members; as such, the future role may involve tasks not envisaged here.
Essential:
- Evidence of strong technical knowledge of financial accounting standards, particularly in relation to Financial Instruments (IFRS 9).
- Experience of delivering an excellent finance service, particularly the collation and presentation of financial year-end accounts and information to auditors in an organisation that comes under public scrutiny.
- Preparing of accounting papers and providing detailed technical accounting advice.
- Evidence of knowledge of UK tax requirements.
- Agile approach to work, using own initiative to proactively identify improvements and follow up actions.
