- The Client:
A government department client is looking for a Data Centre Engineer to join them on a 12 month contract. This position will be near Bracknell – 5 days on site.
Job Summary:
In this role you will be responsible for:
- To receive, respond, resolve, and complete service requests and Break / Fix tickets within the DC.
- To receive, assess and complete patching / de-patching requests as well as other cable tasks such as installation and running cables.
- Complete IT equipment installation, relocation and decommission requests and to applicable internal, manufacture and industry standards (server, switches, routers, etc.).
- Provide remote hands problem solving support (server reboots and visual inspections etc).
- To escort third party engineers and ensure their compliance with the site standards.
- Ensure that risk assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices at all times.
- Maintaining and developing the team’s procedures, documentation, and knowledge base.
- Ensure that data centre components and assets are managed and documented.
- Learning and cooperating with existing Data Centre Engineers.
- Develop process and procedures for Data Centre operations and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- To assist in troubleshooting across technology towers on infrastructure components.
This job is onsite, it will be expected that the successful candidate is available onsite during core working hours Monday to Friday.
Essential:
- Previous experience working maintaining infrastructure and compute equipment in data centres.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure Technologies & Networking Concepts. An understanding of data centre best practices and industry standards.
- The use of fault diagnosis techniques with and without test equipment.
- An understanding of the health and safety requirements applicable to a data centre environment.
- Ability to work well within a team and also operate independently when required.
- Experience with different types of hardware appliance types, equipment installations, power technologies, line replaceable item swaps, upgrades, patching mediums (fibre/copper) etc.
- Troubleshooting, ability to diagnose potential issues and offer solutions as well as offering advice to product teams about physical constraints and limitations.
- Maintaining thorough documentation and creation of the required procedures and standards.
- Experience working with vendors to ensure compliance and compatibility.
- A Full UK driving license with a vehicle. (Must be able to commute or stay overnight).
- A flexible approach to working hours, on call and overtime when required.
Desirable:
- You will have relevant Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security or Systems Engineering qualification; or equivalent related qualifications or experience.
- Experience of working with Agile methodologies.
An active SC clearance is required for this role. At a minimum, candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo security clearance. Due to the short-term nature of the contract and the urgency of the requirement, the client may prioritise applicants who already hold active SC clearance and meet all essential criteria.
