- The Client:
A government client is looking for a Lead Data Analyst to join them on a 12 month contract. This position will be based in Glasgow/London.
Job Summary:
The Lead Data Analyst is responsible for leading the day-to-day data and analytics function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality reporting, insights, and data services to both internal and external stakeholders. The role acts as the bridge between analytics and business operations ensuring that data assets are reliable, accessible, and aligned to organisational priorities.
The successful candidate will manage a team of analysts, oversee reporting delivery, drive data quality improvements, and contribute to the evolution of the organisation's wider data strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Analytics Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of Data Analysts, providing coaching and mentoring
- Establish and maintain analytical standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Prioritise workload and resources to ensure delivery against business objectives and service commitments.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision making.
Reporting & Insight Delivery
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of the organisation's reporting suite ensuring delivery is on time and meets data quality standards for internal operational teams, senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Drive optimisation of reporting processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Translate business requirements into meaningful reporting outputs, KPIs, and management information.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for reporting and analytics requirements across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders, senior stakeholders, customers, and external partners.
- Present insights, trends, and recommendations in a clear and impactful manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support strategic decision making through analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
Data Governance & Quality
- Champion data quality, consistency, and governance practices.
- Identify and address data integrity issues, working collaboratively with engineering and business teams.
- Support the definition and maintenance of key business metrics and data definitions.
- Ensure compliance with organisational data policies and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Significant experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or analytics roles.
- Experience leading or managing an analytics team.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Strong understanding of KPI development, operational reporting, and performance management.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and translating business needs into analytical solutions.
- Experience working with modern BI and visualisation platforms.
Desirable:
- Experience operating within a complex, data-driven organisation.
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and master data principles.
- Experience supporting both internal business reporting and customer-facing reporting services.
An active SC clearance is required for this role. At a minimum, candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo security clearance. Due to the short-term nature of the contract and the urgency of the requirement, the client may prioritise applicants who already hold active SC clearance and meet all essential criteria.
