Day rate - £575 Ltd, Outside IR35
Closing date for applications Monday 20 August 2018
Expected contract length 12Months total-Initial 6months-further period up to 6months depending on business need&performance
Based in Westminster with occasional travel to user and stakeholder teams across the UK.
This is a full time role and when convenient working from home will be permitted.
Travel to regional sites to be agreed, expenses incurred from travel outside of the M25/Greater London will be subject to H.M. Passport Office Travel and Subsistence Policy.
Security clearance SC Clearance is required. HM Passport Office will support the clearance process for the successful specialist should they not hold clearance..
Essential skills and experience
· Demonstrable experience of planning, organising and conducting research with internal government employees, including within secure environments
· Demonstrable experience of assessing user needs for software services, system-to-system integrations and APIs. Not only experience with User Interface/frontend products and services
· Demonstrable strong interpersonal skills and leadership experience in a complex agile environment, knows how to make projects succeed
· Knowledge of how complex applications can comply with W3C WAI standards, experience of evaluating compliance and research with users with access needs
· Full understanding and demonstrable experience of research methodologies. Capability to select best technique. E.g. Qualitative: in-depth interview, usability testing, and contextual enquiry. Quantitative: benchmarking survey, web analytics
· Comfortable with ad-hoc research request from other teams and providing support when possible
Nice-to-have skills and experience
· Experience of the Government Digital Service’s Design Principles and Digital Service Standard and its application to internal products and services
· SC clearance
To work in H.M. Passport Office on a number of projects providing enabling products to support transformation. The User Researcher will support a number of multidisciplinary project teams

Early market engagement
Who the specialist will work with - A multi-disciplinary agile team including delivery manager, technical lead, front-end developer, back-end developer, dev ops, architecture, product manager and service manager.
What the specialist will work on - Working with developers, engineers and product leads to understand front-end, system-to-system and API requirements
• Development and analysis of user surveys
• For existing services, gather and review feedback and assess performance
•Conducting usability testing on design iterations in response to feedback
Gathering, communicating and championing user needs to the project team
• Undertaking Discovery research with new user groups
• Leading with usability testing for accessibility
