Market Pulse
REAL INSIGHT. CURRENT DATA. A CLEARER PICTURE.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE SECURITY-CLEARED TALENT MARKET RIGHT NOW?
Scarce talent. Rising demand. Rate pressure. Location constraints. Clearance and mobilisation friction.
Market Pulse turns current market data into a quick view of the pressures that can affect your ability to secure the people you need.
SC CONTRACT DEMAND HAS ALMOST DOUBLED YEAR-ON-YEAR.
SC Demand up 98% in the last 12 months
9,027 UK contract advertisements cited SC clearance in the six months to 20 September 2026, compared with 4,562 in the equivalent period a year earlier.
SC appeared in 16.54% of all UK contract IT advertisements during the period.
WHAT IT MEANS: More employers are competing for a finite population of already-cleared specialists.
£538/DAY — RATE WATCH
The current median advertised UK contract rate for roles citing SC clearance is £538 per day.
The middle 50% of advertised rates runs from approximately £456 to £630 per day.
DID YOU KNOW? An SC-cleared Software Engineer is currently advertised at a median of about £613 per day — showing how quickly specialist capability can move beyond the overall market median.
WHERE IS THE PRESSURE?
Current SC advertisements most frequently combine clearance with Agile, AWS, Azure, DevOps, CI/CD, stakeholder management and Python.
AWS appears in 19.4% of SC contract adverts, Azure in 19.1% and DevOps in 16.8%.

LOCATION CHANGES THE MARKET
Current advertised SC median rates vary materially by location: around £555 per day in the South East, £550 in London, £530 in the North West and £475 in the West Midlands.
WHAT IT MEANS: Location and onsite requirements don't just affect convenience — they can materially alter the talent pool and the rate needed to reach it.
THE CLEARANCE BOTTLENECK
Already cleared doesn't always mean immediately deployable. Where someone changes organisation, the new employing sponsor submits the transfer request and UKSV assesses whether the existing clearance is eligible for transfer.
THE QUESTION TO ASK EARLY: Is clearance or transfer going to become the critical path to mobilisation?
THE TALENT TRAP: ARE YOU SEARCHING A SMALLER MARKET THAN YOU NEED TO?
Every extra condition — exact experience, active clearance, location, onsite attendance and immediate availability — reduces the addressable pool.
Sometimes the answer is to find another already-cleared person. Sometimes it is to identify the right specialist and explore whether an appropriate route to clearance exists.
