Security Watch

USEFUL UPDATES. PRACTICAL GUIDANCE. DEVELOPMENTS THAT MATTER.

PadlockWHAT CHANGED — AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

Security Watch turns vetting guidance and security-sector developments into short, practical updates — with one question in mind: why does this matter when you are trying to mobilise people?
WHY IT MATTERS: The right information at the right time can help you avoid delays and make better resourcing decisions.

ClearanceCLEARANCE DOESN'T SIMPLY FOLLOW THE PERSON

When a clearance holder moves to a new organisation, the new employing sponsor submits a transfer request to UKSV. UKSV then assesses whether the clearance is eligible for transfer and records the outcome against the new sponsor.
WHY IT MATTERS: "Already SC cleared" does not automatically mean "ready to start tomorrow". Check the transfer position early.

UKSVDV CAN SOMETIMES SUPPORT AN SC REQUIREMENT

UKSV sponsor guidance provides routes for an organisation to request a lower level of clearance where appropriate, including moving from a higher existing clearance to the level required by the new sponsor.
WHY IT MATTERS: The clearance someone currently holds and the clearance the new role actually requires are not always the same thing.

GraphTHE CLEARED MARKET IS GROWING FAST

Current market evidence shows more than 11,800 UK contract advertisements citing security clearance in the latest six-month period, compared with just over 6,000 in the equivalent period a year earlier.
WHY IT MATTERS: Security-cleared recruitment is becoming a larger part of the contract technology market, increasing competition for experienced cleared specialists.

City of LondonLOCATION CAN COST YOU TALENT

Current security-cleared advertised median rates range from around £450 per day in the East Midlands to more than £560 in the South East, while work-from-home advertisements show a median around £525.
WHY IT MATTERS: A rigid location or onsite requirement can change both the available population and the rate needed to attract it.
