Description

The Client:

An government client is looking for a Workday Finance Consultant to join them on a permanent basis. This role offers a hybrid working pattern, with office locations in Swindon, Stockton and Newport, and flexibility aligned to business needs

Job Summary:

The client is a public sector shared service organisation providing high-quality Finance, HR, Payroll, Procurement and Digital services to UK government departments and public bodies.

We play a key role in enabling our partners to achieve the best outcomes for citizens and the UK economy by delivering efficient, secure and modern shared services. In line with the Government Shared Services Strategy, the client is undertaking significant digital and ERP transformation, including the implementation and optimisation of cloud-based SaaS solutions such as Workday.

Our people are at the heart of our success. We offer flexible and family-friendly working arrangements, an inclusive culture, and strong opportunities for professional development and career progression.

About the Team

You will join the Platforms & Products team within Digital & Information, a collaborative group of specialists responsible for the delivery, enhancement and support of enterprise-scale SaaS and cloud-based ERP platforms.

The team works across major transformation programmes and business-as-usual services, partnering closely with clients, programme delivery teams, system integrators and third-party suppliers. We value collaboration, continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing, and actively support training, certification and wellbeing initiatives.

The Role

The Workday Finance Consultant plays a key role in the implementation, optimisation and ongoing support of Workday Financial Management within a complex government shared services environment.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary delivery team, you will provide subject-matter expertise across Workday Financials, supporting business change, process improvement and system configuration. You will act as a trusted adviser to stakeholders, ensuring solutions are robust, compliant and aligned to client and government standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a Workday Financials subject-matter expert, providing functional and process expertise across areas such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Expenses, Assets, Projects and Reporting.

• Resolve Workday incidents and service requests across Finance, and/ Procurement modules, ensuring timely and accurate issue resolution in line with SLAs.

• Triage and prioritise incidents (P1–P4), applying structured investigation techniques to diagnose root causes and implement effective fixes.

• Manage assigned tickets through to closure, maintaining clear, auditable updates and ensuring a high-quality user experience.

• Collaborate with functional and technical teams to resolve complex issues, escalating where necessary with sufficient detail and impact assessment.

• Adhere to defined SLA/KPI targets, ensuring response and resolution times are consistently achieved or exceeded.

• Perform root cause analysis on recurring incidents, contributing to problem management and continuous service improvement initiatives.

• Maintain accurate documentation including knowledge articles, known error records, and troubleshooting guides to support faster resolution and team capability.

• Work closely with programme teams, business stakeholders and system integrator partners to design, configure and deliver Workday Financials solutions.

• Lead and contribute to workshops, capturing business requirements, documenting outputs and translating them into clear functional designs and system specifications.

• Support business process re-engineering and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practice and government shared services standards.

• Document change requests, enhancements and BAU support requirements with a high degree of accuracy.

• Support and, where appropriate, lead testing activities including system testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing; ensure defects and issues are logged, tracked and resolved.

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, clients and third-party suppliers.

• Provide clear and timely communication, presenting information at the appropriate level to support decision-making.

• Support transition to service and ongoing operational support, including knowledge transfer and documentation.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Demonstrable experience working with Workday Financial Management in a configuration, implementation or support role.

• Strong understanding of end-to-end finance processes within a complex organisation.

• Ability to gather, analyse and document business requirements and produce high-quality functional specifications.

• Experience working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and with senior stakeholders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience supporting or delivering testing activities within an ERP or SaaS environment.

• Experience of working within a structured delivery environment, such as Agile or hybrid methodologies, using issue-tracking and ITSM tools.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience of working within a government or shared services environment.

• Previous experience with other ERP solutions (e.g. Oracle e-Business Suite or Fusion) to support transformation, data migration or operating model design.

• Experience supporting integrations, reporting and analytics within Workday.

• Understanding of project and delivery methodologies such as Agile or SAFe.

• Experience acting as a workstream lead or leading small projects or releases.

Behaviours

• Collaborative and team-focused, with a commitment to shared success.

• Proactive and adaptable, able to work effectively in a changing programme environment.

• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality, compliance and auditability.

• Customer-focused, with a desire to improve services and user experience.

What We Offer

• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

• A generous annual leave allowance.

• Excellent defined benefit pension scheme.

• Access to training, professional development and Workday-related learning opportunities.

• Employee wellbeing support and inclusive working environment.

• Opportunities to develop your career within Digital & Information or the wider organisation.

Security and Eligibility

Appointment to this role is subject to successful completion of pre-employment checks, including SC clearance (or willingness to obtain). Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of application.

Development and Progression

The client is committed to supporting your professional growth. You will have access to on-the-job learning, formal training, Workday certification opportunities and clear career pathways within Enterprise Applications, Digital & Information, or wider client roles.
