- The Client:
A government department client is looking for a Senior Commercial Manager to join them on a 6 month contract. This position will be hybrid, London.
Job Summary:
These are critical for successfully performing the role:
- Commercial Management / Procurement.
- Experience managing end-to-end commercial / procurement processes from strategy to contract award.
- Strong understanding of procurement and contract lifecycle.
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation.
- Ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex contract terms and conditions.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and working with legal teams.
- Strategic Thinking.
- Proven ability to deliver high-value, high-risk contracts and frameworks.
- Capability to develop commercial strategies and ensure they align with organisational goals.
- Capability to develop business cases in line with HMT’s Green Book framework.
- Risk Management.
- Experience identifying and mitigating commercial risks.
- Skilled in developing risk strategies and conducting pre/post-award negotiations.
- Stakeholder Management.
- Strong influencing skills with senior stakeholders and suppliers.
- Ability to manage and resolve disputes diplomatically.
- Communication Skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for clear documentation and stakeholder engagement.
- Analytical Skills.
- Ability to analyse commercial data and performance against targets.
Desirable Skills:
These would enhance performance but are not strictly required:
- Industry-Specific Knowledge.
- Familiarity with the specific industry or sector (e.g., public sector, construction, IT, etc.).
- Country or Region-Specific Knowledge.
- Familiarity with the specific country or region (e.g. Africa, Ottawa, etc.).
- Legal Acumen.
- Background or training in commercial law or contract law.
- Project Management.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects or programs.
- Digital Procurement Tools.
- Proficiency in tools like SAP Ariba, Jaggaer, Coupa, or similar platforms.
- Professional Certifications.
- CIPS, IACCM, or similar commercial/procurement qualifications.
- Change Management.
- Experience leading or supporting organisational change initiatives.
