- The Client:
A government client is looking for an Operations Manager to join them on a 6 month contract. This position will be based in Bristol/ Hybrid.
Job Summary:
There are 2 teams involved – one is an in service support team, as that is where the expertise is. They provided detailed technical support to the other team.
Role will involve a bit of BAU as well as providing technical support.
Their biggest contract is a CAT A within the Defence team.
Would suit someone who has been onboard submarines as an engineer, or a manager or a Class 1 officer – as the HM would know what they have done to become a Class 1.
Needs to be able to grasp the operation quickly so they are up and running.
One would support an operations manager who there is only one of.
Person who is doing the job at present is a Level 3 (Professional 2) STS1 equivalent so looking for someone with a defence background ideally at a similar level
Needs to have a fair bit of experience in operations management
Need to understand stock control, contract management, ensuring all milestones are met, standards being maintained, service surveillance.
Operations centre around complex weapons and Operations manager will need to look at how they support and manage those weapons in service.
- Develop and implement an acquisition strategy aligned with Category A Approval requirements.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
- Oversee the planning and execution of tactical development firing trials, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Manage the procurement of equipment and services required for the project.
- Monitor and control project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and timelines.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure the timely delivery of equipment and resources.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and safety standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring adherence to terms and performance standards.
- Facilitate communication between internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of documentation for Category A Approval.
- Monitor and report on project progress to senior management and stakeholders.
- Address and resolve any issues or delays impacting project timelines.
- Ensure quality assurance and control measures are in place for all deliverables.
- Support the development of training and operational procedures for end-users.
- Manage and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the project.
- Coordinate with legal and procurement teams to ensure contract compliance.
- Oversee the integration of new systems or equipment into existing infrastructure.
- Conduct post-trial evaluations and implement lessons learned for future projects.
An active SC clearance is required for this role. At a minimum, candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo security clearance. Due to the short-term nature of the contract and the urgency of the requirement, the client may prioritise applicants who already hold active SC clearance and meet all essential criteria.
