- The Client:
A government client is looking for an Assistant Finance Manager to join them on a 3 month contract. This position will be based in London.
Job Summary:
- To support the Bishoprics & Cathedrals Acting Budget Manager in undertaking the financial and accounting functions of the Department.
- To prepare annual budget schedules and budget illustrations for diocesan and suffragan bishops. To circulate these in liaison with the Acting Budget Manager and action any queries and/or adjustments as required.
- To upload approved budgets on to SAP.
- To set up the quarterly funding for bishops.
- To monitor bishops’ returns against budget and respond to queries from budget holders.
- To prepare a monthly report of expenditure on maintenance of Diocesan Bishops’ houses.
- To set up the Legal Officer fees funding (quarterly in arrears in accordance with the annual Legal Officers (Annual Fees) Order).
- To assist as required with the maintenance of the Bishops’ Staff database and costing data. To process quarterly accruals.
- To coordinate the uploading of the bishops’ quarterly returns on to SAP.
- To generate (using Excel) and circulate, in liaison with the Finance Assistant, quarterly expenditure update reports for bishops and to respond to queries arising.
- To maintain a record of recharges due to third parties and to raise quarterly recharge invoices.
- To review and authorise the quarterly invoices for pension contributions for all bishops, deans and Commissioner funded canons.
- To complete the quarterly high-level reconciliation of bishops’ funds in hand and to follow up any queries arising.
- To carry out other ad hoc financial tasks and investigations.
Education:
- AAT (or equivalent including qualified by experience)
Knowledge/Experience:
- Experience of working with accounting/finance software (such as SAP, Oracle, SunAccounts);
- Strong Excel skills (formulae, v lookups, table arrays, linking spreadsheets, formatting and validation) and good working knowledge of Word and Outlook.
Skills/Aptitudes:
- Tact and diplomacy, able to provide support and appropriate responses to bishops
- Logical and systematic approach to own workload.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to new systems – during the period of this assignment the organisation will be transitioning from SAP to D365 as its accounting system.
Personal Attributes:
- Confident and able to deputise for the Budget Manager.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic, a self-starter.
