Job Title: Category Manager

•Location: Harcourt House, Leeds
•Contract Length: 6 months
•Clearance Level Required: BPSS/ DBS
Experience
Essential:
• A proven track-record working in a commercial environment.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable:
• A working knowledge of procurement legislation including EU Rules and UK
interpretations.
Qualifications
Essential:
Candidates must have one of the below essential criteria.
• qualified purchasing professional (MCIPS)
• member of, or studying for membership of, the International Association for
Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM);
• working towards membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
(CIPS);
• related industry experience.
Key responsibilities may include:
• Provide commercial advice and support to relevant Ministry of Justice clients.
• Engage with stakeholders to develop procurement strategy and capture requirements.
• Analysis and Issue resolutions: making effective decisions, risk mitigation and driving
continuous improvement of process.

• Commercial awareness: development of robust pricing mechanisms, KPIs and price
reduction mechanisms.
• Support the procurement projects and ensure that products deliver measurable value for
customers, supported by Supplier Management Information and Terms and Conditions.
• To lead and/or support the Senior Commercial Manager in negotiations with suppliers
to vary or change contracts, obtaining and managing input from operational colleagues
and others as directed (e.g. Legal).
• To lead and/or support the Senior Commercial Manager in the resolution of disputes,
obtaining and managing input from operational colleagues and others as directed (e.g.
Legal).
• Promote best practice contract management.
• Be proactive in seeking out commercial opportunities, bringing these to the appropriate
forum for consideration.
• Comply with all Departmental controls relating to commercial practice and otherwise,
including strict adherence to delegated authorities, and ensure that staff do the same.
• Support the operational contract managers to deliver and maintain their contract plans.
