• Hours:7.4 Weekly 37
• Location: EA - West Midlands - Sentinel House Lichfield, Staffordshire– some travel required to Defra sites in West midlands
• Contract Length: Asap to 29/12/2018
• Security Clearance Level Required: DBS - BPSS with Basic Disclosure
Additional Information:
Experience in incident communications
• This role will be required to work as a duty communications officer as part of a standby/out of hours rota.
• Some travel may be involved.
Experience Required
We're looking for an experienced communications professional who:
• is a good team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
• Can evidence good written and verbal skills;
• Can evidence a good track record of delivering effective communications activity.
Key responsibilities
• Lead on developing, implementing and evaluating communications plans to help support the delivery of area priorities and outcomes.
• Work with colleagues in other areas and nationally to deliver national-once communications campaigns and projects, via portfolio group.
• Along with planning and delivering proactive communications work, ensure an effective response to reactive work, such as media enquiries and responding to incidents.
• Maintain and enhance existing internal communications channels to meet business needs.
• As a technical specialist, they will provide advice and guidance to fellow team members and the wider business in all aspects of communications and reputation management.
The team
Communications teams provide the following services to their local area customers:
• Incident preparedness and response, including external liaison with partners
Local communications planning and delivery to meet area priorities.
• Local proactive and reactive media management (including social media)
• Internal communications support
• Advice around high public interest sites, flood risk and environmental improvement projects
• Communications skills capacity building (plain English, social media skills, etc.)
• Advice and support in relation to publishing, maintaining our brand and enhancing our visibility
